#10: The Strength in the Valley

"The term “mountain top experience” comes from those moments in the Bible when God revealed Himself to people on a mountain." (Saxe)

Christians get so caught up on the mountaintop experience that they forget the importance of the valley. God is with us at all times and he doesn't leave us (Isaiah 41:10). Yet, once life hits us and we don't "feel" God's presence or if He's not miraculously making everything okay, then we start to resent Him and loose faith because we didn't build a firm foundation and relationship with Him. When everything is going great we are so easy to trust in Him and His ways but when diversity and hardship is thrown at us, we will crumble. We will be so focused on the end solution to our problems that we will start to idolize the mountaintop experience and we will forget to give glory to the one who guides us to the mountains.

"I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." - Psalms 121:1-2 (NIV)

If we focus so much on the mountains then we will forget about the importance of the journey. A mountain is not easy to climb and one needs to be prepared. God allows us to go through our valleys so that we may grow strong and be equipped with the tools we need to scale the next mountain. First, however, we must make our foundation on God because without faith or trust we cannot expect to scale our mountains no matter how prepared we believe that we may be.
